The performance of membrane separation processes is mainly driven by the specific separation performance of the membrane modules in addition to smart integration of this separation unit in the overall process design. The setup of membrane modules for polymeric membranes is often based on either flat sheets or hollow fibers. Given the one or the other concept, the implemented membrane material and separation layer thickness defines the maximum performance of the module with a supportive housing design. Corrosion costs the oil and gas industry $1.372 billion every year. No operator is more aware of the high costs of corrosion than Petrobras. In Brazil’s deepwater pre-salt reserves no pipe comprising metallics has so far evaded corrosion due to the combination of hydrogen sulfide, water and high temperatures. The problem has led Petrobras to look to Magma’s composite m-pipe. We have been working to qualify m-pipe in Brazil and share our initial results in this paper.
