The challenge remains that the successful implementation of PAT technologies often requires a level of expertise that necessitates the creation of specialist groups which can only focus on a small number of high priority projects at one time. For crystallization processes, an opportunity exists to deploy simpler technologies that can be readily adopted by scientists without any specific PAT expertise. An example of this type of technology is real-time microscopy3, which provides scientists with high-quality images and videos of crystals and crystal structures inline as process conditions are changing.
