Chemical Management: What You Need to Know

One of the objectives of REACH is to limit testing on vertebrate animals while still determining whether a substance poses a hazard to customers. With that in mind, an effort is being made to ensure duplicate animal testing does not happen. REACH has created the Substance Information Exchange Forum to allow manufacturers to share data on specific substances, and thus reduce the need for redundant testing. The SIEF is a specific cooperation agreement for REACH registration, and it is organized by its co-registrants. Each registrant must update their registration dossiers on an ongoing basis as they become aware of new information. Registrants share their data on a substance with other co-registrants, share the costs for that data and prepare the joint registration. To be accepted as a registrant of a substance, proof is required to confirm that the substance is within the boundaries of the Substance Identity Profile (SIP) agreed to in the SIEF
