2015 National Post-Consumer Non-Bottle Rigid Plastic Recycling Report

A minimum of 1.24 billion pounds of post-consumer non-bottle rigid plastic was reported as recovered for recycling in 2015, the second highest year on record and nearly four times greater than eight years ago. The total in 2015 decreased by 45 million pounds, or 3.5 percent compared to 2014. Domestic purchases increased overall, by 1.9 percent, and exports dropped by 13 percent compared to 2014. U.S. and Canadian reclaimers continued to procure more material than export buyers. U.S. and Canadian reclaimers acquired approximately 67 percent of the material reported in 2015, which is up nearly four percent compared to 2014 and these reclaimers continue to lead resin segregated plastic purchases.
