N. America weekly chemical rail volume continues YOY gains

During the week ended 25 August, chemical railcar traffic in North America increased 0.9% year-over-year (YOY) as a strong gain in the United States offset a sharp decline in Mexico. Volume totaled 46,854 carloads, up 0.9% from the previous week, according to data released on 29 August by the Association of American Railroads (AAR). For the year to date, chemical railcar traffic in North America is up 2.6%. Chemical railcar traffic in the United States contributed 32,564 carloads to the total, up 3.3% YOY and up 0.1% from the previous week. For the year to date, US chemical railcar traffic is up 3.8%. Canadian chemical railcar traffic totaled 12,925 carloads, up 0.3% YOY and up 3.0% from the previous week. For the year to date, Canadian chemical railcar traffic is up 2.7%.
