Lummus Technology, a worldwide provider of value-driven energy solutions and process technologies, recently announced its licensed TC2CTM crude-to-chemicals technology will undergo its first commercial deployment at S-Shaheen Oil's Project in South Korea.
TC2C converts crude into value-added chemicals through a unique integrated process that combines Lummus' ethylene technology with Saudi Aramco's catalyst and separation technologies and CLG's hydroprocessing reactor and catalyst technologies.
TC2C maximizes crude conversion at a lower carbon intensity, higher energy efficiency, and lower capital than typical refineries and petrochemical complexes. Unlike other conventional crude-to-chemicals technologies, TC2C processes low-value refinery streams, such as pyrolysis oil and slurry oil, and tailors them to optimize olefins, aromatics, or any mix thereof.
S-Oil recently revealed the confirmation of its final investment decision on the Shaheen Project. Upon completion, Shaheen will be one of the largest ethylene plants in the world and the first commercial use of TC2C, a ground-breaking technology that converts entire crude into value-added chemicals.
The new S-Oil facility will deploy multiple Lummus and Chevron Lummus Global (CLG) technologies to refine oil into ethylene, butadiene, propylene, and other basic chemicals. Once completed, the facility will have an annual production capacity of around 3.2 million tons of petrochemicals.
