KBR wins contract from Haiwan Chemical for phenol and acetone plant

Professional services and technologies supplier KBR has secured a contract to license its phenol and acetone technology to Qingdao Haiwan Chemical. KBR will provide the technology licence to Haiwan Chemical’s new phenol and acetone plant in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China. Expected to produce 320,000t per annum, the grassroots phenol/acetone plant is located in the Dongjiakou Industrial Zone. KBR will also provide basic engineering design (LBED), as well as technical and training services to the new plant under the terms of the contract. KBR technology solutions president John Derbyshire said: “KBR is committed to working closely with the project team to deliver the next world-class project.” The company serves customers in more than 80 countries and has operations in 40 countries. It provides technology, value-added services, integrated EPC delivery, and long-term operations and maintenance services. Haiwan Chemical general manager Gao Zijian said: “KBR’s phenol process has been on the leading edge for more than 60 years and KBR is continuously making innovative technical improvements to maintain its competitiveness.” “I believe this phenol plant will be playing an important role in our corporation’s progress of industrial transformation and upgrading.”
