Eurasian Economic Union to start chemical inventory information collection

The Eurasian Economic Union has told industry it must begin providing information for an inventory on the chemicals they produce. The inventory forms part of the EEU’s plans to establish a register of substances and mixtures within its five member countries: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.  In a note to July’s sub-committee meeting of UN GHS experts in Geneva, the Russian Federation said the process of inventory information collection would begin on 10 August. However, commentators say the process has not yet begun and that the deadline is more of an indicative date. The economic bloc has been working on a chemicals management plan since 2013, but necessary secondary legislation still needs to be approved. Until this happens, there is some uncertainty about whether the register can move forward. Nevertheless, inventory compilation is expected sometime in August or September, Olesia Pochapska, senior consulting manager at REACHLaw, confirmed to Chemical Watch.
