Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem), in collaboration with Charter Next Generation (CNG), has announced that overwrap film containing CPChem's Marlex® AnewTM Circular Polyethylene is destined for U.S. retail shelves. Multifunctional and efficient, overwrap films aid in food preservation, maintain medical devices' security and sterility and provide lightweight and resilient product packaging.
CPChem uses its established advanced recycling program to manufacture Marlex® AnewTM Circular Polyethylene, certified by International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS using the free attribution methodology. This technique utilizes pyrolysis oil derived from difficult-to-recycle waste plastics as a feedstock to create a circular polyethylene with identical properties to CPChem's original Marlex® polyethylene.
CNG has used recycled content in various food and consumer packaging films for over a decade and recently announced ISCC PLUS certification at its Lexington, Ohio, campus. This location is one of the largest extrusion sites worldwide and serves key markets, including towel and tissue overwrap, fresh produce, protein, and e-commerce.
CPChem continues investigating uses for its circular polyethylene and improving its innovative recycling program. Recently, the business collaborated with Phillips 66 to successfully process pyrolysis oil at the Phillips 66 Sweeny Refinery in Old Ocean, Texas. The Phillips 66 plant has also gained ISCC PLUS accreditation, which verifies that the refinery meets the requirements for converting pyrolysis oil into circular feedstocks that may be utilized to manufacture CPChem's Marlex® AnewTM Circular Polyethylene.
