CORRECTING and REPLACING PPG Introduces CORAFLON Platinum Powder Coatings for Architectural Metals
PPG CORAFLON Platinum fluoroethylene vinyl ether (FEVE) fluoropolymer powder coatings for architectural extrusions and sheet aluminum were introduced today. Compared to standard FEVE powder coatings, the innovative coatings technique provides higher transfer efficiency rates of more than 20% and better corrosion resistance.
PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coatings are available in various colors and glosses, including micas and metallic finishes, for metal building components and architectural applications that require the industry's highest levels of corrosion and weathering resistance. A wide variety of eye-catching mineral tones and textures that mimic cement, stone, terracotta, and other natural finishes are also available.
The coatings meet the Fenestration and Glazing Industrial Alliance and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (FGIA/AAMA) 2605 standards. They are supported by more than nine years of third-party testing data, including 4,000 hours of cyclic corrosion testing. In addition, they provide architects with a gloss range of five to 85, compared to 25 to 70 for standard FEVE powder coatings. This enables the coatings to have the appearance of anodized aluminum when specified in a matte (low-gloss) finish while also providing corrosion resistance and long-term colorfastness that traditional anodized processes cannot.
PPG Coraflon Platinum coatings have been tested to ensure that they meet strict environmental standards, such as the European Union's Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) standards. The powder technology is designed to be free of potentially harmful substances such as triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), fluorosurfactants, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), and Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red List substances. The coatings have also been tested and found to have 70% less e-cap than competing products.
PPG Coraflon Platinum coatings have a 20-year guarantee and meet AAMA 2605 standards for film integrity, chalk resistance, and color change.
