Chemicals Firm Kemira Invests $20M to Expand US Plant

Finland-based chemicals firm Kemira is planning to invest $20 million in an expansion project at its Eastover, SC plant, a press release issued Thursday by the South Carolina Department of Commerce said.
The company manufactures chemicals for a wide range of applications, including pulp and paper, water, industrial, and oil and gas. Kemira will boost the Eastover site’s capacity for sodium chlorate, which is used in the production process for chlorine dioxide, the firm said in a separate press release.
“As global consumption of bleaching chemicals continues to increase, we are excited about this investment in our sodium chlorate capacity in the Americas to ensure our ability to effectively serve our customers globally,” said Kim Poulsen, president, Pulp & Paper and Region head of Americas at Kemira, in a statement.
