Chemical facility could bring 300 jobs, but residents wary in Pittsfield Township

PITTSFIELD TWP, MI -- A global chemical company is promising 300 new jobs for Pittsfield Township, but some residents have environmental concerns about the proposed construction of a new industrial facility near a park. The Pittsfield Township Planning Commission on Thursday, Jan. 17 postponed a decision on whether to allow Wacker Chemical to build a new facility near Marsh View Meadows park. “We haven’t seen in my opinion, a high enough level of cooperation from wacker to workout design and building issues, siting and minimizing footprint and height,” Planning Commission Chair Matthew Payne, said. “We have nothing against Wacker and welcome economic development but there are some issues.”
