Chemical company to invest $15M in former ESCO facility in Muskegon

American Chemical Solutions is about to invest $15 million and set up shop at the former ESCO chemical manufacturing facility in Muskegon. The new company plans to create 38 high-tech, high-wage jobs for Muskegon-area workers, according to Michigan Economic Development Corporation documents. A $200,000 performance-based grant from the MEDC is contingent on that happening. ACS will restart the “idled manufacturing facility,” at 1221 E. Barney Ave. in Muskegon, CEO Todd Zahn, said in a statement.
Zahn did not immediately return a call for comment from MLive/Muskegon Chronicle. The company will resume the functional dye manufacturing that ESCO was known for in Muskegon. The dye is used in thermal and carbonless printing. ACS also offer will custom and contract manufacturing services.
The $15 million project includes refurbishing equipment, securing roads, and replacing equipment and infrastructure that the former owner removed and sold. It will restart three of the facilities on the 20-acre site, according to MEDC documents. The former ESCO property was slated to be dismantled before ACS acquired it, according MEDC documents. “We see a unique opportunity to create a strong, vibrant manufacturing business, one that will meet the needs of our customers around the world while helping to spur our city’s ongoing renaissance,” Zahn said in the statement.
