Global New Chemicals and Toxic Substances Management

Before marketing a new chemical, the manufacturer/importer, in order to meet the various national and international legal requirements, has to submit information in the form of a notification or registration (e.g. phys-chem, toxicological, ecotoxicological data) to support each Government’s risk assessment to determine whether the substance poses an unreasonable risk to the environment and/or human health. Some countries require pre-manufacture/import notification while for many jurisdictions, the chemical notification process is a tiered system requiring subsequent notifications as the annual amount of the imported or manufactured substance increases. Further, there are expanding global initiatives to assess chemicals already in the marketplace and subsequently take action on any chemicals found to be harmful to human health and/or the environment.

Innovation vs Application: Maximizing Efficiency in Peptide Drug Discovery from a Chemistry Perspective

ACS

The process of drug discovery and development is a path that enlists the expertise of many while in pursuit of the one novel entity that rises above a host of potential candidates. For peptides this can be a daunting task given molecule complexity, physiochemical properties, receptor selectivity and scale-up of material. This presentation will discuss the discovery of our Glucagon agonist and how to use innovative technologies, focused SAR, and effective integration of a unique multidisciplinary team in the drug discovery process.

Ligand Finding and Chemistry Workflows for Targeted Protein Degradation

Proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) are a class of bifunctional molecules which are enabling the development of drugs against targets once considered inaccessible. PROTACs bring a protein of interest into close-proximity to an E3 ubiquitin ligase.

Investigating undergraduate student understanding of chemical kinetics

RSC Chemical Education Research Group

Although facility with mathematics is often central to understanding chemistry, little work has been done to explore the nature of this in undergraduate students. This study sought to investigate how students integrate chemistry and mathematics during problem solving in chemical kinetics, a disciplinary context that has also received little attention in the literature.
