Washington state begins transition to interstate chemical reporting portal

Washington state’s Department of Ecology (ECY) has notified industry that its Children’s Safe Product Reporting Database will shut down on 30 September because of the state’s upcoming transition to a new database. Built by the Interstate Chemical Clearinghouse (IC2), the new 'portal' will enable companies juggling multiple state reporting schemes – such as those adopted by Oregon, Vermont and Washington on children’s products – to submit a single report to fulfil all their requirements. Oregon and Washington will be the first to adopt the new system, which is known as the High Priority Chemicals Data System (HPCDS). Vermont reportedly also plans to use it, but the transition will be delayed. The portal is expected to be ready on 15 November, but the date remains tentative.
