Small companies take the lead in Chemical Footprint Project results

December 02, 2019 / Chemical Watch

Smaller businesses performed better on average than their larger competitors in the Chemical Footprint Project’s (CFP) 2019 survey, bucking the assumption that they are "at a disadvantage when it comes to chemicals management", says the team behind the work.  The CFP survey is an initiative of the NGO Clean Production Action that helps corporations measure their progress on transitioning to safer chemicals. The aim is to elevate "chemical footprinting" to the equivalent of carbon and water footprinting. The annual surveys have consistently shown that small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) perform the same – "if not better" – than bigger ones, the report on the 2019 survey says. This year, small companies scored higher overall than medium and large companies, and also outpaced them in the categories of footprint measurement, disclosure and verification.
