Italian chemical company acquires Birmingham firm

A Birmingham-based chemical company tied to the oil, gas and industrial water treatment industries has been acquired by an Italian chemical group. Genoa-based Italmatch Chemicals, a global specialty chemical group, has acquired Water Science Technologies for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition was aimed at strengthening Italmatch Chemicals position in the North American oil and gas market.
Water Science Technologies CEO James Sasser called Italmatch Chemicals a “long standing, first class, global chemical company." “We think Italmatch backing will accelerate WST growth, also in terms of innovation and geographical presence,” he said. Italmatch founder and CEO Sergio Iorio said Water Science Technologies is a young, dynamic company with a great focus on technology-driven solutions.
