EPA Adds First Chemical to Its Air Pollutant List Since 1990 (2)

The EPA has agreed to grant petitions dating as far back as 2010 to add a commonly used degreaser to the list of regulated hazardous air pollutants—the first time in 30 years that it has agreed to add a chemical to the list. With this action (RIN 2060-AS26), the Environmental Protection Agency has agreed with petitioners that the chemical commonly known as 1-bromopropane (1-BP) poses a public health risk when members of the public or any workers involved in its use inhale it. Manufacturers of the chemical including Albemarle Corp.; Chemtura Corp., now called Lanxess; Phoenix Chemical Co.
