Polyethylene pre-K Trade Fair snapshot

Polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) buyers in Europe are facing further price increases for 2017, particularly those with contracts linked to upstream ethylene and propylene, and discussions are expected to be tough. Shortages in 2015, caused by the weaker euro against the US dollar, the fall in crude oil and naphtha prices, and an unprecedented number of force majeures on both monomer and polymer, left product tight, and prices soared. Security of supply has been paramount in 2016, and 2015 may have changed the face of European PE and PP markets for some time to come.
