USA Compression Partners and Callon Petroleum Announce Start-up of Dual Drive Compression in Eagle Ford Shale

USA Compression Partners, LP and Callon Petroleum Company announced the start-up of multiple Dual Drive compressors at Callon’s locations in the Eagle Ford Shale. The Dual Drive compression service offering, which is currently only offered by USA Compression, offers customers the ability to contract for natural gas compression services powered by either natural gas or electricity, providing operators the ability to significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions from their operations.

The concept of Dual Drive Compression system is to combine a natural gas-driven engine and an electric-driven motor to quickly and reliably switch from natural gas to electricity depending on operating constraints to compress natural gas. The field proven Dual Drive Compression system allows companies to decrease GHG emissions and permit their sites for electrical compression, while still having the flexibility and redundancy to switch to natural gas when extreme temperatures - both summer and winter - put a strain on the power grid and utilities charge steep demand fees during resulting power outages. As a result, customers will realize lower operating expenses, increased reliability, improved runtime, substantially lower emissions of CO2 and methane, the mitigation of interconnect delays and optimized fuel costs.

Dual Drive Technologies received the 2012 Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) award for Best Available Control Technology (BACT) for emission reductions in the gas compression industry. And, in 2009, Dual Drive received the Innovative Technologies Award from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). This award also focused on emission reductions in the industry. A 2021 Environmental Excellence Award from the GPA’s Midstream Environmental Committee adds to Dual Drive’s list of accolades. USA Compression is currently the only provider of compression services using the Dual Drive Compression technology developed by its parent entity Energy Transfer.

LG Energy Solution partners with Compass Minerals to enhance steady flow of supply chain

LG Energy Solution is branching out in its efforts to secure supply chain of materials as it ramps up its battery production to satiate the growing market demand. LGES today announced that it has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Compass Minerals a leading provider of essential minerals, critical to producing battery-grade lithium. Under the terms of the MoU, Compass Minerals would supply LGES with lithium carbonate and hydroxide. The MoU states that LG Energy Solution would be supplied with as much as 40% of Compass Minerals' planned annual phase-one lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide production for 7 years starting in 2025. LGES and Compass Minerals have committed to continuing good-faith negotiations toward a binding supply agreement. Compass Minerals is widely known to deliver essential minerals like Sulfate of Potash, Sodium Chloride and Magnesium Chloride and is currently pursuing development options available to service growing U.S. market demand for battery-grade lithium. The battery manufacturer added that this is the first lithium producer, based in the U.S., to partner up with the company as it looks to solidify its supply chain in the U.S. and cater to the growing market demand for EVs in North America. "Securing key raw materials has become critically important, in order to maintain our lead position in the global battery market. LGES will make sure to support establishment of steady supply chain in North America, while it continues to seek and acquire environmentally friendly produced battery-grade lithium worldwide." Dongsoo Kim, Senior Vice President of Procurement Center at LG Energy Solution LG Energy Solution has been at the forefront in securing key raw materials for EV battery production. Apart from the MoU with Compass Minerals, LGES signed an MoU with SQM of Chile as the two firms agree to commit to investigate and develop joint investment projects of electro-mobility industry value chain. LGES also executed an offtake agreement with Liontown Resources Limited for the supply of spodumene concentrate from the Kathleen Valley Lithium Project. The deal states that LGES be supplied of up to 150,000 dry metric tonnes per annum of spodumene concentrate, starting 2024. The battery manufacturer signed a binding lithium hydroxide offtake agreement with Germany's Vulcan Energy Resources Ltd. earlier this year for at least 41,000 tonnes of battery grade lithium chemicals over the 5 years starting 2025. Dow, X-energy to drive carbon emissions reductions through deployment of advanced small modular nuclear power

Dow the world's leading materials science company, and X-energy, a nuclear energy innovation company, today announced that they have signed a letter of intent which will help Dow advance its carbon emissions reduction goals through the development and deployment of X-energy's advanced small modular nuclear technology in the U.S. Dow and X-energy will collaborate with the intent to deploy X-energy's Xe-100 high-temperature gas reactor technology at one of Dow's U.S. Gulf Coast sites – which is expected to be operational by approximately 2030. The Xe-100 reactor plant would provide cost-competitive, carbon free process heat and power to the Dow facility. Dow also intends to take a minority equity stake in X-energy, working with the company to deploy small modular nuclear technology. "Advanced small modular nuclear technology is going to be a critical tool for Dow's path to zero-carbon emissions and our ability to drive growth by delivering low-carbon products to our customers. X-energy's technology is among the most advanced, and when deployed will deliver safe, reliable, low-carbon power and steam. This is a great opportunity for Dow to lead our industry in carbon neutral manufacturing by deploying next-generation nuclear energy." Jim Fitterling, Dow chairman and chief executive officer X-energy's Xe-100 is a Generation IV, high-temperature gas reactor built on decades of research, development and operating experience. Each reactor is engineered to operate as a single 80 megawatts (MW) electric unit and is optimized as a four-unit plant delivering 320 MW electric. Dow and Mura Technology announce largest commitment of its kind to scale advanced recycling of plastics

Dow the world's leading materials science company, and Mura Technology, the global pioneer of an advanced plastic recycling solution, today announce the next step in their partnership to help solve the global plastic waste issue with the intention to construct multiple world-scale 120 kilotons (KT) advanced recycling facilities in the U.S. and Europe – collectively adding as much as 600 KT of annual capacity. Dow will play an important role in the partnership as a key off-taker of the circular feed that Mura produces. This circular feed, derived from plastic waste currently destined for landfill or incineration, reduces reliance on fossil-based feedstocks and will enable Dow to produce a recycled plastic feedstock for the development of new, virgin-grade plastics which are in high demand from global brands. By working together, Dow and Mura will ensure plastic has a viable way to be re-circulated into global supply chains, helping to advance a circular economy for plastics and increase the value of plastic waste. These planned capital investments by Mura, as well as Dow's off-take agreements, represent both companies' largest commitment to date to advance and scale global advanced recycling capabilities. A Letter of Intent with Nexus Circular to create a circular ecosystem in Dallas, Texas, for previously non-recycled plastic building on its previous Hefty® EnergyBag® collaboration with Nexus and Reynolds Consumer Products. Hydrothermal technology offers the scale to solve the plastic issue Mura's unique hydrothermal recycling process, HydroPRS™, breaks down plastics using water in the form of supercritical steam. The steam acts like molecular scissors, cutting longer-chain hydrocarbon bonds in plastics to produce the valuable chemicals and oils from which the plastic was originally made – in as little as 25 minutes. These oils – equivalent to the original fossil products – are then used to produce new, virgin-grade plastic with no limit to the number of times the same material can be processed, creating a true circular economy for plastic waste. Importantly, the products may be suitable for use in food-contact packaging, unlike conventional recycling processes. Mura's innovative process can recycle all forms of plastic waste including those considered 'unrecyclable', such as films, pots, tubs and trays, that can currently only be incinerated or sent to landfill. The process is designed to work alongside conventional recycling and wider initiatives to reduce and reuse plastic such as mechanical recycling which remains crucial to Dow's recycling strategy. Using supercritical steam means the technology is also inherently scalable. Unlike other methods, which heat waste from the outside, the steam imparts energy from the inside, providing an efficient conversion of plastic waste; a process which can be maintained regardless of scale. Dow joins other major global players such as KBR Inc., the U.S. multinational engineering services company, Wood, the global consulting and engineering company, and others, as partners to accelerate the deployment of Mura's technology worldwide. The technology is also backed by environmental group, Ocean Generation, which is campaigning to tackle the plastic waste issue.
