Strategic Acquisition of Future Industrial-Scale Green Hydrogen Production in the Caribbean

Hydrogène de France mnemonic code: HDF - announces that it has acquired a 70% majority stake in the NewGen project in Trinidad, led by the local company Kenesjay Green Ltd. KGL, the project developer, will retain the remaining 30% of the share capital of NewGen, which will be jointly owned by KGL and an investment vehicle that will allow for the inclusion of additional local investors. HDF Energy is thus leveraging its technological expertise in hydrogen, its know-how in the development of green energy plants and its local presence in the Caribbean.

When completed, the 200+ Million USD NewGen plant will be the world largest clean hydrogen producing facility of its kind, using a smart combination of solar and energy efficiency-sourced power. It will competitively generate carbon-free hydrogen to meet 20% of the hydrogen requirement for an existing world-scale ammonia plant in the petrochemical hub of Point Lisas, Trinidad. Once up and running, the project will save approximately 200 000 t/CO2 per year.

As a global pioneer in hydrogen power, HDF will add its in-depth experience in hydrogen technologies, procurement and project finance, to the Trinidad-specific energy and ammonia expertise contained within the KGL project development team. This is the third major investment in the Caribbean this last year for HDF, which announced hybrid “Renewstable®” baseload power plants using green hydrogen and solar power in French Guiana and Barbados alongside its regional partner and investor, RUBIS.

Together, KGL and HDF will select the optimal electrolysis technology provider from a competitive evaluation process. KGL has also recently been granted the outline planning permission for the NewGen Project by the Ministry of Planning of Trinidad and Tobago, and has made progress in further confirming the economic and financial viability of NewGen.

DeNovo Delivers First Gas from Zandolie

DeNovo Energy Limited part of the Proman family of companies, announced delivery of first gas from its Zandolie field. The Unmanned Minimum Facility is DeNovo's second offshore field development to be completed in Block 1 on the West Coast of Trinidad. DeNovo has once again proven its commitment to increasing Trinidad's national gas supply by safely and quickly developing stranded and marginal gas reserves. With an investment of USD 52 MM, Zandolie was completed within 31 months amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. To date, with approximately 371 persons employed at peak of construction, there has been Zero Loss Time Incidents from 476,613 manhours. Of the total manhours spent delivering the project, 66% were local content manhours. Overall, the Zandolie project was delivered with 56.4% local content spend. Zandolie is a single well, conductor-supported platform with a nameplate capacity of 40 MMSCFD. The field development builds off the existing Iguana Infrastructure enabling a more compact topside structure that is lighter and more efficient. The space saving achieved also minimises the use of steel in the design allowing for a modular design and greater use of local fabrication services. The ground-breaking integration of renewable resources makes Zandolie the first design of its kind in Trinidad and Tobago. Powered by wind and solar, the 100% renewably powered platform was also fully fabricated in country, affirming DeNovo's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and maximising local talent and resources. The facility has also been designed to prevent methane slip in the transportation of gas during the extraction process and in its movement to DeNovo's on-shore gas processing facility within the Point Lisas Industrial Estate. Construction of the platform was completed at the United Engineering Services Limited (UESL) local fabrication yard, and the Zandolie Drilling campaign was also safely conducted by the local Well Services Rig 110. Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Stuart R. Young, M.P., proudly commended DeNovo remarking: "I am very pleased to witness this successful milestone achieved by DeNovo. The story of local fabrication and skills as well as personnel used for Zandolie proves that it can be done. I encourage DeNovo to continue pursuing opportunities for increased gas production in Trinidad and Tobago and look forward to more success from you." Dow, X-energy to drive carbon emissions reductions through deployment of advanced small modular nuclear power

Dow the world's leading materials science company, and X-energy, a nuclear energy innovation company, today announced that they have signed a letter of intent which will help Dow advance its carbon emissions reduction goals through the development and deployment of X-energy's advanced small modular nuclear technology in the U.S. Dow and X-energy will collaborate with the intent to deploy X-energy's Xe-100 high-temperature gas reactor technology at one of Dow's U.S. Gulf Coast sites – which is expected to be operational by approximately 2030. The Xe-100 reactor plant would provide cost-competitive, carbon free process heat and power to the Dow facility. Dow also intends to take a minority equity stake in X-energy, working with the company to deploy small modular nuclear technology. "Advanced small modular nuclear technology is going to be a critical tool for Dow's path to zero-carbon emissions and our ability to drive growth by delivering low-carbon products to our customers. X-energy's technology is among the most advanced, and when deployed will deliver safe, reliable, low-carbon power and steam. This is a great opportunity for Dow to lead our industry in carbon neutral manufacturing by deploying next-generation nuclear energy." Buckeye Partners Completes Bear Head Clean Energy Acquisition

Buckeye Partners, L.P. announced that it closed on the previously announced acquisition of Bear Head Energy, Inc. which is developing a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production, storage and export project in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia with hydrogen electrolyzer capacity of over two gigawatts. “Buckeye’s intention with this acquisition is to develop a large-scale green energy production, distribution and export hub.
