Carbontech Company HYCO1 Introduces Groundbreaking Technology that Turns CO2 Waste into High-Value Products

HYCO1 | August 18, 2021

Carbontech innovator HYCO1 announced today it has developed a proprietary catalyst and process technology that gives industrial companies a way to turn harmful CO2 waste into high value, sustainable products. Using HYCO1's breakthrough technology, industrial companies can quickly and drastically reduce their CO2 emissions with no upfront costs. HYCO1 is then able to convert those emissions into high purity gases that are in high demand for green chemical production.

"High CO2 emitting companies are looking for solutions to decarbonize. Our CO2 catalyst cost-effectively converts up to 100 percent of CO2 into usable gases, whereas conventional CO2 reforming technologies are limited to a much lower conversion rate at a considerably higher cost," said Greg Carr, co-founder and chief executive officer at HYCO1. He added, "We can directly meet the decarbonization objectives and corporate mandates that chemicals, fuels, building materials, and power industries are seeking."

Turning CO2 emissions into low-cost, high-value products represents a sustainable and easily scalable investment opportunity. Using HYCO1's technology, companies can convert millions of tons of CO2 per year into building block chemical gases that can be directly reused in industrial source processes or alternatively used to produce a wide range of low CI score products that the world uses. From food grade waxes and efficient motor oils, to paints, dyes, fertilizers and fuel, HYCO1 can create carbon-negative or carbon-neutral products at the same or higher quality than products made from petrochemicals.

"We're delivering a better way to reduce, reuse and recycle carbon with bankable turnkey customer solutions," said Carr. "Our carbon transformation process technology "drops into" existing, manufacturing processes and integrates seamlessly at any scale above 250 tons per day."

Well-positioned to address the emissions challenge, HYCO1 is led by co-founders Greg Carr, Jeff Brimhall and Kurt Dieker. Together, Carr, Brimhall and Dieker bring more than 80 years of hydrogen, syngas, chemical process, catalyst development, environmental technology, industrial gases, and business development experience, overlapped with years of successful tech start-up and funding experience.

About HYCO1
HYCO1 is the only carbontech company that cost-effectively captures industrial-scale CO2 emissions from the source and turns them into high-value, sustainable products. Pioneering a new era for planet positive solutions through carbon negative innovation, HYCO1 brings immediate, actionable CO2 conversion and utilization solutions to high CO2 emitting industrial companies and ESG investors. By decarbonizing one industrial plant at a time, HYCO1 plans to reduce, reuse, and recycle carbon emissions in a way that reverses the effects of climate change.

LOTTE Chemical and Sasol Chemicals exploring collaboration to develop materials for electric vehicle batteries

Sasol Chemical and LOTTE Chemical | June 20, 2022

Sasol Chemicals, a business unit of Sasol Ltd. and LOTTE Chemical have agreed to conduct a pre-feasibility study of a joint project to build, own and operate a plant to produce battery-grade electrolyte solvents, key components of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. The companies will assess the suitability of Sasol’s locations near Lake Charles in the United States and Marl in Germany for a facility that could produce a variety of battery-grade electrolyte solvents, using feedstock provided by Sasol and third parties and employing proprietary technologies of both LOTTE and third-party licensors. "The increase in battery demand is driving the rapid growth of demand for the key materials that constitute a lithium-ion battery. LOTTE Chemical will lead the global battery materials market quantitatively and qualitatively by rapidly expanding our battery materials business," Young-Jun Lee, Head of the Battery Materials Business Group for LOTTE Chemical “This agreement is consistent with our strategy to answer the sustainability challenge through the solutions we provide our customers,” said Shelley Grahmann, Vice President of Strategy Development and Optimisation for Sasol Chemicals. “With an existing Sasol footprint and strong site infrastructure available in Marl, and the development of our Lake Charles site as a sustainability hub, we are eager to determine if either site would be ideally suited for a facility to provide key materials to the lithium-ion battery market.” The project will also consider options to minimize carbon footprint, such as the usage of renewable energy. Electrolyte solvents enable lithium-ion batteries by allowing lithium ions to travel more easily between the battery’s anode and cathode. Lithium-ion batteries are likely to be the key power source for electric vehicles. About Sasol Chemicals Sasol Chemicals is a solutions provider focused on sustainability, circularity and specialties. SEKISUI Aerospace Acquires Continuous Compression Molding Equipment for Thermoplastics

SEKISUI Aerospace | November 12, 2021

SEKISUI Aerospace, a subsidiary of SEKISUI Chemical, has completed an investment in Continuous Compression Molding (CCM) thermoplastics technology and equipment. The work cell is currently being installed in SEKISUI's Renton, WA facility and is expected to be operational by December 2021. The CCM line includes ply cutting and alignment, welding, and test equipment. Additionally, an Automated Press Cell (APC) with a robotic part transfer that enables stamp forming of thermoplastic composite blanks will be installed by Q2 of 2022. Adding continuous fiber thermoplastics production to the Renton, WA facility complements SEKISUI's existing thermoplastic and thermoset production capability. This new work cell is also strategically located adjacent to our Innovation Laboratory (iLab) - Research and Development center. This technology addition enables SEKISUI to offer its customers a wider variety of manufacturing and process technologies for new work packages. CCM adds breadth to SEKISUI's existing thermoplastics processing portfolio which currently includes chopped fiber products produced at our Orange City, IA facility. The flexibility of the CCM process allows for varying ply orientations and ply counts to produce solid laminate blanks of varying thickness and widths up to 24 inches. Panels of varying lengths can be produced for companies with existing stamp forming capability, or produced for use on our own APC cell. It can also produce multiple shapes of continuous fiber structural profiles. "We are excited to add this composite technology to our product offering. We see a lot of opportunity for thermoplastics in the aerospace market but are also open to other market applications as well. The team is working on testing and qualification of the equipment and processes, and is currently developing plans based on materials and product applications for existing and new customers." Chelsea McLaughlin, Senior Director of Programs, Contracts and Strategy "The ability to develop CCM solutions for customers in commercial aerospace and other industries such as automotive, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and military applications, allows us to differentiate ourselves through technology and serve our customers with innovative solutions for their current and future projects. Investing in this automated thermoplastic capability is also another great step towards our commitments to eco-sustainability and aids our efforts in minimizing our impact to the environment by employing recyclable materials," said Daniele Cagnatel, CEO and President of SEKISUI Aerospace. About SEKISUI Aerospace SEKISUI Aerospace has been manufacturing and engineering products for the commercial aerospace and defense markets for over 32 years.
