Braskem Expands its Circular Polymer Portfolio with New FDA Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) Polypropylene Grades

Braskem S.A.  the largest polyolefins producer in the Americas, as well as a market leader and pioneer producer of biopolymers on an industrial scale, announced the expansion of its circular polymer portfolio to include two new polypropylene (PP) grades with post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.

Braskem's new PCR polypropylene grades can be used in a wide range of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) food contact applications where PP is used today, including consumer packaging, caps and closures, housewares, and a wide range of thermoforming applications.

"Today's announcement is another milestone in Braskem's journey to a carbon neutral circular economy, and reinforces our commitment to polypropylene as the PP leader in North America. Not only will Braskem's new PCR polypropylene grades help our clients meet their commitments for recycled content in FDA food-contact markets, where PCR solutions are limited today, these developments will also keep us on track to reach our goals of providing 300,000 tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content by 2025 and one million tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content by 2030."

Geoffrey Inch, Braskem North America Sustainability Director

To support the sustainable use of polypropylene through the development and investment in the circular economy, Braskem America is a founding member and funding partner of the Polypropylene Recycling Coalition, with a primary focus on increasing U.S. polypropylene recovery and reuse.

Braskem is strongly committed to a Carbon Neutral Circular Economy where nothing is wasted, and everything is transformed. To support this vision for the future Braskem has clearly stated targets for growing the company's recycled content product portfolio to sales of 300,000 tons by 2025 and 1 million tons by 2030. Braskem's transition to a circular economy is deeply rooted in mechanical and advanced recycling solutions. By engaging and investing in partnership with other members of the value chain the company is strengthening mechanical and advanced recycling, overcoming barriers, and ensuring the increased production of high-quality recycled material.  All these initiatives are aligned with Braskem's feedstock diversification strategy and its macro goals of expanding the circular economy concept in the plastic chain and becoming a carbon-neutral company by 2050.

908 Devices Enters Initial Production Phase of US Department of Defense Aerosol and Vapor Chemical Agent Detector Program

Business Wire | September 28, 2023

908 Devices Inc. a pioneer of purpose-built handheld and desktop devices for chemical and biochemical analysis, announces that it has entered the initial production phase of the Aerosol and Vapor Chemical Agent Detector (AVCAD) program. The company and its partner on the project, Smiths Detection, will initially produce 122 systems in this next phase. The systems, which have been in development and testing since 2019, are a next generation chemical detector, designed to detect, identify, alarm and report the presence of traditional and advanced threat vapors and aerosols. Using a wireless remote alarm capability, the AVCAD, which can be mounted or portable, will support missions for the U.S. Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps. To ensure the highest level of detection and to meet the key deployment needs of the U.S. Department of Defense, the AVCAD features the company’s High Pressure Mass Spectrometry (HPMS) technology. Mass spectrometry is considered to be the gold standard of analytical lab techniques. 908 Devices’ proprietary HPMS technology leverages micro scale geometries and high frequency electronics to enable an efficient regime of vacuum operation for a significant reduction in device size and power consumption compared to conventional lab instruments. “908 Devices is pleased to continue working with the U.S. Department of Defense and our partner, Smiths Detection, on this enterprise, multi-year program,” said Kevin J. Knopp, CEO and Co-founder of 908 Devices. “Being selected for this limited production phase validates our technology as a new standard for chemical detection and we are truly honored to have a role in protecting our U.S. military.” About 908 Devices 908 Devices is revolutionizing chemical and biochemical analysis with its simple handheld and desktop devices, addressing critical-to-life applications. The Company’s devices are used at the point-of-need to interrogate unknown and invisible materials and provide quick, actionable answers to directly address some of the most critical problems in life sciences research, bioprocessing, pharma/biopharma, forensics and adjacent markets. The Company is headquartered in the heart of Boston, where it designs and manufactures innovative products that bring together the power of mass spectrometry, microfluidic sampling and separations, software automation, and machine learning.

Sapio Sciences Unifies Small- and Large-Molecule Discovery on a Single Platform

Business Wire | October 10, 2023

Sapio Sciences, the science-aware™ lab informatics platform, today announced the launch of the Sapio Chemistry solution, which unifies small-molecule and large-molecule discovery workflows on a single platform. Built on the same no-code platform as Sapio’s existing large-molecule discovery electronic lab notebook solution, Sapio Chemistry enables scientists to draw insights across all their organization’s discovery experiments. See Sapio’s new Chemistry solution for yourself in this exclusive webinar on October 11, 2023 - register here. “Many organizations are still running decades-old electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) and other software for capturing chemical synthesis experiments and registering small molecules,” said Kevin Cramer, president and CEO of Sapio Sciences. “Large-molecule and small-molecule discovery have traditionally been managed on disparate systems, creating artificial islands that impede scientific collaboration and decision-making. Sapio is excited to give biopharma organizations the opportunity to consolidate all their chemistry experiments on a modern, unified lab platform.” Sapio Chemistry is designed to facilitate collaboration among chemistry teams and their colleagues in analytical core facilities and screening labs, including contract research organizations. Advanced, chemically intelligent search built into Sapio Chemistry makes up-to-date project data easily accessible to the entire team. Out-of-the-box, configurable templates simplify the capture and sharing of chemistry experiments, including the reaction, reagents, solvents, and products through to registering synthesized compounds, batches, and lots and requesting assays. Sapio Chemistry also includes advanced capabilities for sample and inventory management, leveraging the strong sample-handling features built into the Sapio platform. Sapio Chemistry includes the latest science-aware™ functionality from Sapio, offering the first-ever lab triple-play solution of ELN, laboratory information management system (LIMS), and Jarvis scientific data cloud all in one. Science-aware means the system unifies data and works the way scientists do with built-in tools for managing, visualizing, and analyzing data to make life in the lab simple. About Sapio Sciences Sapio Sciences' mission is to improve life in the lab — because science is complex, Sapio makes technology simple. Sapio is a global business offering an all-in-one science-aware™ lab informatics platform combining cloud-based LIMS, ELN, and Jarvis data solutions.
