Mexican petrochemical company Alpek, a unit of conglomerate Alfa, has signed a deal to fully acquire a British plant from Lotte Chemical UK Limited, Alpek said in a statement on Tuesday. The plant, a unit of South Korea’s Lotte Chemical, has the capacity to produce 350,000 tonnes of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) per year and is located at Wilton, Teesside. South Korean firm Lotte Chemical has said that it will build a petrochemical joint venture with GS Energy in South Korea. Both companies will invest KRW800bn ($677m) by 2023 in constructing the plant. The Lotte Group company and GS Energy signed an agreement earlier this year to form the joint venture, provisionally named Lotte-GS Chemical.
