Many of the store's customers have been urging this type of change for quite some time. In 2014, for instance, Stacy Malkan, a co-founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, wrote a piece for the New York Times, explaining why she felt CVS needed to step up its game and get rid of the many toxic chemicals sitting on their shelves. "Though I shop at CVS, I don’t buy personal care products there because most contain chemicals I don’t want to put on my body," she said. "In the long term, CVS should fulfill its health-focused mission by offering personal care products that are free of chemicals linked to cancer, reproductive problems and other adverse health effects," she added.
