Reaction monitoring is a key aspect in a range of chemistry environments from chemical synthesis to drug discovery to understanding natural products to protein synthesis. Understanding the optimal time to quench a reaction for maximum yield, as well as monitoring a reaction in real-time are vital to many medicinal and synthetic organic chemists. Advion’s expression CMS was developed with the chemist in mind to optimize their workflow directly at the bench. It is an easy-to-use and maintain single quadrupole detector that integrates with the industry’s broadest range of innovative sampling techniques from direct probe analysis to ultra-high performance liquid chromatography. Users can rapidly switch between the many different sampling techniques required throughout the chemist’s workflow.

Eliminating Harmful Chemicals from Your Household Products

Article | February 24, 2020

I have just recently starting swapping out my old household cleaning products for new, safer versions that contain fewer harmful chemicals. This can be a daunting process for most people including me! I am by no means an expert in this process, and I have debated whether I should write a blog article about it. However, I decided to go ahead and share with you what I have learned so far, and maybe we can go through this process together.

Removal of non-industrial chemicals from the NICNAS Inventory

Article | February 24, 2020

The Australian Government announced its intention to implement reforms to the way in which industrial chemicals are regulated. The reforms are intended to streamline the process of assessing industrial chemicals to reduce the regulatory burden and to make regulatory effort more proportionate to risk. The Industrial Chemicals Act, which was passed by Parliament in February of 2019 and received Royal Assent in March of 2019, creates a new framework for the regulation of imported or manufactured industrial chemicals. The new scheme, referred to as the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme, or AICIS, will replace the current National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme, referred to as NICNAS.

Transforming Recycled Plastic into Additives for Industrial and Consumer Products

Article | February 24, 2020

With a more increased focus on adding more recycled content to products, it’s becoming very apparent that innovation is required in order to meet these demands. During the Plastics Recycling Conference, Canadian cleantech company GreenMantra Technologies accepted the Association of Plastics Recyclers (APR) Showcase Award, which is given to companies who have a innovative and potentially game-changing idea to advance the recycling of plastics. GreenMantra Technologies is a clean technology company that utilizes a proprietary catalyst and patented depolymerization process to upcycle and transform recycled plastics into value-added synthetic waxes and specialty polymers.

What Are Fine Chemicals?

Article | February 24, 2020

The initial versions of drugs were produced by extracting substances from natural herbs and other plants. As understanding and technology in chemistry continued to grow, scientists figured out to isolate and extract a lot more individual compounds from raw materials. The complicated processes that produce these simple, pure substances form the field of fine chemistry. The chemical industry is separated into branches, with fine chemicals serving as the smallest segment of them. Its companions are commodities and specialty chemicals. Commodity chemicals are those that are mass-produced on a big scale to supply global markets. They include general compounds that are the same from supplier to supplier. Specialty chemicals usually are sold as brand name products and are advertised for their distinct qualities and their abilities to carry out functions that other chemicals cannot. They are composed of one or more fine chemicals.
