Applying non-animal test methods for assessing skin sensitisation

Information about the impact of many chemicals on our health or on the environment is needed. Chemicals, known as skin sensitisers, can cause allergic reactions when they come into contact with our skin. Yet these chemicals play an important part in our economy and they are used in virtually all industry and business sectors. Skin sensitisation data is required in many parts of the world, including the EU, before a chemical can be used by workers or sold to consumers.  Since 2016, alternative methods must be used by default to test chemicals for skin sensitisation.
