A question we often get asked is “how does BOSS alter the Melt flow index (MFI) of recycled plastics?”.  As tempted as we are to say its magic, that takes place inside our ‘patented shoogling box’, it isn’t. BOSS doesn’t actually do anything to change the melt flow index (or MFR – you will see it referred to like both, but it’s the same thing.  You also see MFV (melt flow volume) from time to time, and again its’ essentially the same measurement).

Applications of Scratch Testing on Polymers

Article | March 5, 2020

Polymers have been used in many consumer and industrial areas for many years. They have several advantage compared to metals such as low density, chemical resistance and easy production. However, polymers have generally lower wear and scratch resistance than other materials and therefore these properties must be carefully controlled. Since the beginning of the 20th century polymers found their place in many applications in daily life and industry. Their production is relatively simple and they can be formed into many different shapes. The market of polymers is developing fast and new polymers appear very frequently.

Survey Report: The State of Intelligent Operations in Oil and Gas

Article | June 11, 2021

Intelligent Operations can play a vital role in creating connected content environments, however, many companies – especially within oil and gas – having been slow on the uptake. Businesses that implement digital transformation initiatives often gain a competitive advantage over their rivals, as they benefit from reductions in human error, increases in productivity and further support for compliance efforts. This report, produced in collaboration with OpenText, dives into the results of our Intelligent Operations in Oil and Gas Survey 2020, revealing where the industry is in terms of its adoption of Intelligent Operations and the hurdles it needs to overcome to truly embrace digital platforms and solutions.

Jostein Aleksandersen, Neodrill There is an increased focus in the oil and gas sector to look further afield to opportunities presented in deepwater locations. Because of this, finding cost-efficient solutions and overcoming the associated challenges that arise below 1,000 ft will be vital for the success of new activity. All those currently—and those considering—operating in deepwater fields will have an awareness of the general challenges that are presented at such depths. From considerations relating to vast increases in pressure, to the potential for increased drilling time and days spent offshore, there are several hurdles that follow when operating in what are often challenging well environments. In addition, suitable solutions also must support the industry drive to reduce emissions by offering a more carbon-efficient approach.

Why QuickStart Chemical Management Can Save Your Assets

Article | February 27, 2020

The world of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) IT systems is a vast one. Therefore, it cannot be stressed enough that organizations need to be nimble and armed with easy-to-deploy, interoperable, portable systems. Most mature organizations opt for a risk-based EHS management system framework designed to meet a continually evolving and dynamic business and operating model. A risk-based approach offers flexibility, within defined boundaries, for alternate solutions to risk management needs. Standard frameworks recommend mandatory controls when there is potential for high-consequence events. Moreover, risk control measures which have been proven effective and considered technically superior are increasingly used.
